It's okay to be discontented

I came across a quote today that I really liked. Those of you that subscribe to this particular Quote of the Day probably saw it:

"Nobody got anywhere in the world by simply being content."

-Louis L'Amour

It resonated with me, because it made me realize that it's okay to be unhappy. Unhappiness and discontent is what drives humanity to succeed, to build, to dream. If we were all born happy and content, we'd all still be hunter-gatherers. There would be no such thing as capitalism, no such thing as medicine, no such thing as any of the modern conveniences that you and I enjoy today.

By the same token, we'd all be perfectly happy, which would make such things unnecessary. (But we'd also be extinct as a species.)

So if you're unhappy, don't despair. Unhappiness is what drives us as a species to achieve great things. Make the most of it.

RIP Addwaitya

Addwaitya, a 250 year-old tortoise died today. Sad. It was older than the United States. Older than the Declaration of Independence. Sort of puts things into perspective, eh?

Rest in peace.

Addwaitya

PLS STFU

Heh, I was out to lunch with my dad today, and a car pulled into the parking lot as we were about to leave. I informed the driver that his license plate was probably the coolest plate I'd ever seen. He was like "Thanks. It's nice you know what it means."

Heh. I snapped this pic with my camera phone: (Click for larger image.)

Vide Cor Meum

If you're a fan of classical music or choral music, you must listen to this piece of music from the Hannibal soundtrack. It's stunningly beautiful and unexpected.

Go on; I'll wait. You won't be disappointed. Except maybe when it ends.

This is one of those comics where…

…they were trying to be funny but instead came up with a good idea.

airline travel

Pros:

  • Everyone gets a window seat
  • It's way easier to sleep lying down
  • Great for redeye flights
  • No one bothers you by leaning over or squeezing past you

Cons:

  • Probably not safe
  • Impossible to work

I'd totally buy a seat like that on a redeye flight…

airline travel, close to home, air travel

Drinking and writing…

ALWAYS A GOOD DECISION!

Or…

Why is it that I'm always at my most lucid between being buzzed and complete inebriation? What's up with that? I always produce my best stuff then. Present writing excluded, of course.

Have you ever written an English essay whilst completely smashed? I have, and it's a GOOD TIME. It's even better when you get an A.
