MeDic :: Instructions
And now my least favorite part of creating something: telling people how to use it.
I'm only posting the instructions for Word, because if you're using OpenOffice.org, you're probably clever enough to figure out how to use the macro to import the dictionaries. I haven't tried it personally, but it works for other Word custom dictionaries, so I'm thinking that it'll work without a hitch for you.
Using the dictionaries in Word is pretty straightforward. Just a few steps and you're ready to go.
- Download the dictionary, and open the zip file.
- Extract all.dic file to wherever. Generally you can simply drag and drop the contents where you want it saved. (On my computer, this is in the folder where I keep all of my documents. Whatever you do, make sure you remember this location.)
- Now it's time to add the dictionary to the list in Microsoft Word. Open Word, and then go to the Tools menu. From there, hit Options, and then hit the "Spelling and Grammar" tab. It should be in the top row. (screenshot)
- Click the button that says "Custom Dictionaries…"
- Click "Add…"
- Find your file(s).
- There is no step 7. Hah! Fooled you.

An issue for installation.
Using Word 2007, and when attempting to add the dictionary it tells me to save it in Unicode first.
Any suggestions?

yeah here is how you fix that problem in word 2007
Open the text file all and then under file click save as unicode when writing the name you want to save it as make sure you have it end with *.dic* eg. "medical.dic" so that word will view it as a dictionary file….
Hope that helps! also thanks so much for this awesome dictionary!!1

Hello!
I don't know if this is any help but i've gone through this and replaced lots of the US spelling with UK ones. I couldn't find a UK version on here for myself. Let me know.
thanks a million billion for this!!!

Vik,
If you've compiled it in a comprehensive way, I'd be interested in hosting it as a UK-specific dictionary. As you can see above, someone else has made an Australian version. Perhaps your dictionaries are similar?
